How to make/use schematics~
« on: September 16, 2011, 08:20:15 AM »
Hello Forum, this is just a small tutorial how to open, make, download
and upload schematics.

1. What are schematis?~
2. McEdit~
3. Download a schematic~
4. Import a schematic
5. How to make a schematic?~
6. Uploading a schematic/screenshots

1. What are schematics?~
Schematics are files which you can make with MCEdit.
What is good about them?
You can upload for example only your house and share it with others,
without uploading the whole worls save.
You can also paste schematics in your world.

2. McEdit~
McEdit is programme to make/import schematics, you can
also make more with it, like generate trees and more!
~Here a downloadlink and more information
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/13807-mcedit-minecraft-world-editor-compatible-with-mc-beta-18/
~Don't know how to use it?
http://www.mcschematics.com/index.php?topic=873.0
Note: Close Minecraft while using McEdit! Why?
Spoiler
YOU MUST EXIT MINECRAFT COMPLETELY BEFORE EDITING.
If you leave Minecraft running while using MCEdit, the clash will corrupt your saves. If you ignore this warning, your map will become laggy and your character will stop moving.

Why this happens?
Spoiler
Region File Cache interferes with Map Editors, risking save corruption.
Players can't have Minecraft running at all while using a map editor. You could run both at once in previous versions of the game, but doing it now has a chance of corrupting the saved game.

The inconvenience of having to restart the game is made worse by Minecraft's long login and loading times.

Technical info:

When you click "Save & Quit to Title" in single-player Minecraft, the game doesn't unload the saved game. Because of the RegionFileCache (whose source was made public), the region file's offset table is stored in memory while Minecraft stays open. If the region file is modified so the offset table needs to change, Minecraft will still have an old version of the table and have serious problems reading the world the next time you go into it.

I'm the author of the world editor MCEdit. I've tried a couple of things to figure out if Minecraft is running and close it if possible.

- Changing .session_lock. If the world is being played, Minecraft will quit out of it but will keep the offset table in memory. Doesn't work.

- Renaming the file. Detects if Minecraft has the file open. Only works on Windows.

On Windows, a file open for writing cannot be renamed. Because the RFC also keeps an open write filehandle on the region file I can try to rename the file and it will fail if another process opened it. On Linux and OS X there's no error if I try to rename the file, or even delete it.

There's another solution I really don't want to fall back on:

- Scan window titles for "Minecraft" and find java.exe processes owning them. Seems fragile, and requires multiplatform work.

3. Download a schematic~
You like a project/building and want to download it?
3.1 Just find the .schematic file and click at it, like here:

3.2 Then chose the option 'save file' and then 'ok'

4. How to import a schematic~
4.1 Open McEdit, then load a word
where you want to have the schematic

4.2 Click 'Import' and choose your
schematic.
Can't import the file?
Spoiler
Some schematics have a different file type and McEdit can't
'read' them. Just add a .schematic behind the filename.
Example: House -> House.schematic

4.3 After you found a good place
click 'Import', you also have the option (not) to import air/water.

4.4 Now hold 'Strg' or open the Menu
and save all. There is also a shortcut for this: Ctrl + S

That was all. Now just close McEdit and start Minercaft  [winky]

Very nice about time someone made this.

Sticky anyone? Also you should add why you should close Minecraft while using Mcedit. the whole collision between the 2 programs. Because I can bet 20$ that someone is gonna ask why. Also want you may want too edit the images and write english dubbed or if you want i can take screeny's of said part so it appears in english. Also for the first reccomendation google it it will appear why because I was one of the curios people that asked why you should close it XD
Don't Mess with the Go-Rock Quads :P

I would say this is good, but it doesn't appear to be the latest version. A lot of things have changed (especially exporting schematics)
