Rochester Castle
« on: August 14, 2011, 03:54:04 PM »
I watched the movie Ironclad, and when I saw this castle, I had to recreate it in Minecraft. I used photos of the actual place, of models made of what it used to look like, even a YouTube video of someone walking through it.

I tried to be as true to life as I could to the actual castle, considering that the interior is now in ruins. The first link is my original version of the build. It is made up of cobblestone/stone for the walls and has glass block windows. The second link is Rochester Castle version 2. I redid the walls with Stone Block and used glass panes for the windows. I also made a fully functioning dungeon with iron bars and doors.

Here is the Original Version:

Pretty amazing, but it looks so cold/colorless. It's a bit like a spooky Frankenstein castle. Castles are always big and should be cold, but I'm sure if you add some Medieval stuff around and inside it, it will look way better :)

^^ If you do could you post the schematic for that? This would look totally badass as a ruin.

Though it also looks extraordinary as a full castle. Holy crap, good job man.

Here's the ruined version, all credit for castle obviously goes to Mythra13.
I went a little overboard with the TNT :)

I put the castle on my server and it works great for a battlefield.

Didn't the real one have one of the towers round?

Yes, and that's a very good point. The castle went through many alterations and repairs over the years. As you've pointed out one of the towers is rounded, this was done during one of its restorations. However, the original design had four squared off towers that were probably nearly identical. I did a fair amount of research in building this castle, looking at photos, much like the one you've posted, even watching a video tour on YouTube. I'm happy with the end result. Thanks for your interest.

From the rules: "All topics posted in the Published area of our site, must have the schematic attached to the first post in the topic, if you host it at sites like adf.ly we can remove your topic without notice. ". There is a button you use to attach, it has a small tnt icon and is below the typing window - it is called "Attachments And Other Options". Please use this ;)

Why is this still here if its being hosted by two ad.fly links? Even after a mod came in and asked the post to be changed.
