a four block wide piston door
« on: July 21, 2011, 10:26:13 PM »
If it is possible to make, I would very much like a four block wide door using pistons. I can't figure out how to make it wider than two.
The door we need has to be 4x5 or 4x4 blocks.

Thank you for your time.

well I can make a very simple one, but the ones in mcschematics like the gatehouses I think are much better.

Thank you, but you misunderstood what I meant.

What you've made is essentially a simplified version of the portcullis that someone else has made earlier. While also a nice thing, not what I was looking for.

What I wanted was a door that opens up by retracting blocks into the sides, not the floor and roof.
But I don't know if it is even possible to make.

in essence - what you've built, but flipped on the side.

so you want a 4x2wide piston door that retracts to the side, that doesn't sound hard. Could you post like a screenshot or even maybe a schematic to show what I am doing it with.

srry dude, unless Notch changes the code to allow inactive sticky pistons to actually stick, then this is not possible without exposed pistons AND redstone

explains why I haven't seen any schematics for such a door. A pity really.

i got one just as good but you have to have the power input at the back or u can just fix it if u can also attached is a dam with it in action  :mobcreeper:

If these work I'd be happy to be proven wrong ;) can't say I prefer side opening doors myself, but the circuitry to allow it would be very useful (b^.^)b

Well it's for a grand castle a friend's been working on for the last couple weeks. It needs proper castle doors. And since we can't have them turn inward like real doors, the next best thing is retracting them into the walls like those found in pyramids and other creepy places.

I just made a 4x4 Piston door, and although it doesn't open like you wanted (both halfs slide sidewards), it opens at least :) So if by any chance you can use it have fun with it!

Your 4x4 door doesn't seem to be complete. It's missing circuitry at the pressure plate, and I don't see any switch behind.

Anyway it would seem a sideways retracting door isn't possible at this point. Might just nick the portcullis one and change the fence blocks with something solid :)

Thank you guys for trying though.

I didn't get the whole thing the pressure plate needs to b linked by you with an inverter but you connect
It to the Back because it works best there look at the dam schematic to see how to input

Did look at the dam, but it was a bit complicated and dark, so I didn't quite understand it all. Nor did I make the dam open properly despite using a lot of the levers. But nevermind it for now. We're not done with  the outdoor yet, so there's still time to make a door.

The levers don't open the door there's external pressure plates that open the door but unfourtunally the door is one way the levers only control water and the one near the door inside controls the outflow to an underground river soz it's a bit of a mess I will try over the next few days to clean up the door so it is cleaner and goes both ways

hmm...If you want to open the door by using pressure-plates/buttons you could combine the door with i.e. such a mechanism so the door would open/close each time you step on one of the pressure plates...Perhaps it's helping...

It's not the trigger mechanism that is teh issue - that was merely broken in one of the schematics. The problem is getting the blocks to slide two spaces sideways, which appearently can't be done at this time.
