Working Redstone Powerhouse (no mods!)
« on: July 15, 2011, 05:58:01 PM »

This is my redstone powerhouse.  I love to make my towns and buildings as interactive as possible, and I found a great way to do it by creating a powerhouse that will burn items for 5 minutes of power each.  You can then use logic gates to hook this in to other circuits in your house and buildings, and those circuits will then require that the powerhouse be running in order to work!

This powerhouse runs off of garbage.  It can burn any item to generate power.  It will generate 5 minutes of power for the first item you put in it, and will generate (n-1)*5 minutes of power for every item after the first (where n is the number of items you put in.)  When the powerhouse has run out of items, it will expose the reactor which will allow you to place more items in it.  Once you place your junk in the reactor, hit the button on the wall to start the powerhouse, which will close the reactor and burn all the items in the reactor one at a time for as long as it takes, generating power in the process.

All you have to do is drop this in your town and run a wire underground from the torch coming out of the back of the powerhouse.  Then, just hook this line into all your redstone circuits in your town using AND gates or whatever logic you need, and you have a power grid!  When the reactor runs out of trash to burn, your circuits wont work and someone will need to go throw some fuel in the reactor and start it up!

This looks simple, probably a pressure plate in there? Nice idea though.

It is very simple.  The pressure plate has two outputs, one of which splits so that one side powers a torch that hits the dispenser and the other side goes to the output of the plant.  The other output of the pressure plate gets delayed by about a second with repeaters, and joins up at the output of the plant.

This way, when the item on the pressure plate disappears after 5 minutes, it will send a quick signal to try and pop out an item from the dispenser, which will fall and activate the plate.  This all happens while the delayed 0 signal from the plate goes to the output of the plant, such that the output does not turn off briefly in between item drops from the dispenser every 5 minutes, it stays on constantly until there are no items remaining in the dispenser.

You could also use this to time your circuits so they come on in 5-10-15 minutes so on and so forth.

Just a minute ago I set it to 15 minute and hooked it up to a wad of TNT that I stood on, and raced the timer by going to Taco Bell.  I managed to get back just as I was dying to a massive explosion.

If you are looking for a complicated circuit, I am fixing to upload my keypad sequence lock, and I can promise you this.  The lock is better than any you have seen yet in functionality.

Unfortunately no, I can't afford it.  I would love to play with others using my creations.  I have some pretty wild ideas for castle vs castle PvP using cannons and whatnot.

This is really nice, but i have one problem, where to i wire the redstone torch at the end of the powerhouse, to the AND gate? (like where in the AND does the wire connect to).

I don't mean to "resurrect a dead thread" but if someone more redstone-skilled than I should happen across this question:
How could I wire up a "off" button or a "stop lever" that halts production such as one of the following:
1. Button - Ceases production and opens Piston
2. Lever - Temporary stop and open piston until lever retracted
3. Lever (Piston only) - Keeps producing, but Piston is retracted.

How could I do any of those? Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks.

in the case of a lever or button, you will be providing an "open signal", i.e. a powered signal that in some way must then hold the circuit open (and thus not running). Find somewhere in the powerhouse where the signal is reversed (where it's passed through an inverter, so that "off" in the powerhouse equals an "on" through that point) and connect your lever there.

Thanks elseagoat for this VERY useful schematic. Instead of importing it into my map, I used Schematic 2 Blueprint to rebuild it layer by layer. I do that in order to see how redstone wiring is done exactly.....after getting it done, I was amazed at how simple the wiring was...but yet I would have never thought of that....very awesome. Thanks again...  :diamond: :diamond: :diamond:
