« on: July 12, 2011, 03:05:15 AM »
hey all, I'm a "newbie" to mcedit.

Ive got access to a multiplay clanforge, so i can download the zip file of the world backup.

Ive downloaded the zip and unzipped, tried to open my world in mcedit, and then it gives me a checkered floor with nothing there....

am i doing something wrong?.
as id like to try and share some schematics once me and a few others are done building it the old fashion way :P

help greatly appreciated

What OS you using?

Also make sure you have the save in your single player saves area, unzipped.

Also make sure you have the latest version of MCedit.
If the problem persists - a reinstall is probably best.

I'm not 100% sure but if you can locate your level.dat file folder and go from there it should work, I'm not that experienced between SSP and SMP.

press the start button, type in %appdata%\.minecraft\saves (or copy paste from here)
extract your multiplayer world to a subfolder there, so it looks like c:\users\slateruk\appdata\roaming\.minecraft\saves\multiplayerworldthingie with a level.dat inside and regions and players folder

Edit: Once you've done that, try opening the world in minecraft singleplayer and verify that it is intact. If it is, your problem is with mcedit
I don't know the version number of the latest stable, but I am using testing 106 at the moment.

ok got my MP world into SP worked fine, wen i spawned i was in a black hole or something and died, but when i respawned it was working fine. it now shows up in mcedit...

so do i have to load it up in single player first then goto mcedit for it to show?

we getting there though which is good stuff :D

In single player get to the stuff you wish to export. Then save and quit, open up MCedit then you should have no problems exporting.

Mayhaps it's an old backup you've gotten your hands on.
Check the modified date of the region files - the newest date is the last time the world was open.

I remember in stable14 there was a glitch where non-default texture packs could make a mess, particularly if they were HD ones. Otherwise I wouldn't know. Try holding Ctrl to bring up the options panel and fiddle with the settings?

Cool, link fixed. Back to doing useless stuff.

To add stuff to the multiplayer world, you'll have to stop that world and import schematics that you'll presumably have exported from the copy you're working with. So make sure you've got access to it, or you're wasting time.

Anyway. Good to hear it works :)

yeah its becuase of different map formats like mine did this when i tried to open the newest format with an older mcedit so what you need to do is either update mcedit if its the latest save format or get and older version of mcedit for older versions of the the map save format

(i think the lastest save format is anvil)

the first things that you need to know is:
  • Is you MCedit the latest version
  • Is your minecraft the latest version
because if your mcedit isnt the latest version you can download it here:
https://github.com/mcedit/mcedit/downloads
and if your not working on the latest minecraft update this will not work though

what update are you using?? 1.2.5??

you need to make sure that the two versions of mcedit and minecraft go togeather
