McEdit Chunk Deleting Not Fixing Messed Up Chunks
« on: June 11, 2011, 12:54:28 PM »
I've been trying to fix our SMP map for an hour or so now and still cant find a way to get rid of the "chunk walls" all over the place.

Ill delete the entire side of our world to make it more square and when I go into Minecraft to see how the map generates it always ends up with a wall there... why would it be creating chunks backwards instead of going off the current edge of the map?

Any way to fix this or get it to create chunks from the correct way?

Also if there's any way to fix the sand bug where it clumps in squares on the map it would be awesome to know. Shown all over the place in first pic.

First pic: What I deleted off the side of our world.
Second pic: What happened when I walked there to spawn new terrain.

Thanks ahead of time!

Your seed has changed. I had the same issue on one of our worlds. try if you find an ancient backup with a player.dat, then use that to extract the seed.

I deleted > 500 chunks yesterday on one of our worlds, and with the correct seed, everything rendered fine.

Cheers

Because your deleting existing chunks in MCedit they wont come back, instead you'll get void pits.

Where would the player.dat file be? and you mean extract as in replace my current with that one? probably dont have a file that old anyways saved in my backups.

Yeah but the void pits are just like the unexplored areas on your current map aren't they? Then when you walk there IN Minecraft it renders the terrain again.

Also this has happened all over our map where the chunks have gotten messed up when exploring and end up being huge walls in the terrain.

My bad, the file is called  level.dat and is in your world folder. There are a couple of tools that can extract the world seed, easiest might be:

http://mc.42nex.us/

If you don't have an old level.dat anymore you are screwed ... That's the only place where Minecraft stores the seed value.

You are right about the void pits, they get regenerated as soon as you get close, based on your world seed.

Cheers
