The PANTHEON!
« on: June 03, 2011, 05:53:21 PM »
The Pantheon, built in ancient Rome to worship the gods.

The word "Pantheon"... the Greek root "Pan" means All, or everything. The Greek root "Theo" means God, or religion. The "n" implies it is a structure. (And also makes it sound more epic to say..[grin]) So, Pan-theo-n means a structure to worship all the gods, and that is literally what it was. A universal temple devoted to worshiping all of the Roman gods! Awesome right?

Anyways, this project took me quite a while to finish.. and I wanted to see what everyone thought of it! As always, Constructive criticism, +rep, downloads, and (if I EVER finally get lucky..) awards. :)

Enjoy! [grin]

Wow, I love the detail you've put into this, especially inside. Nice work.

Ohh, very nice. It's interesting how you've gone for the dome instead of the generic rectangular overdose of pillars that people associate with pantheons.

Only suggestion I have is to do a bit more with the outside than leave it as a purely stone structure. You've done marvellous work on the inside, now replicate that on the outside. Maybe not to such an extent, but just a little bit here and there to break up the monotone gray.
You see that link that says "positive" under my name? Go on, give it a click. Its awfully lonely. Make it feel welcome.

Yeah, I noticed that monotone on the outside, but I didn't know what to do with it...

And with the "generic rectangular overdose of pillars that people associate with pantheons." I think that is the Parthenon you are thinking of. This is the Pantheon, and actually does have a dome. :) do a Google image search on it!

I'm diggin' the inside man!

I agree in that the outside needs something as well; maybe put some glowstone in the base for some dynamic-ish lighting?

I was just looking at this in my world, and I really think the outside needs a bit of work. Anybody have ideas on how to improve the outside?

by the way you got the arch wrong if you were trying to make a replica.

Please explain?
I had multiple pictures of the outside of the structure and I did it fairly accurately, I thought.
NOTE: The inside was just my free spirited mind making it look cool, That is not the inside on the real pantheon.

the rectangular collumned temple is caled teh PARTHENON.  Its the temple of Athena on the Acropolis in Athens, Greece.

The Domed PANTHEON is what id displayed here and is a structure in the city of Rome, Italy

i really hate how people get the 2 confused.

Now back to the structure.   It is very nice on the inside.  Its not exaclty a minecraft replica but it is quite still a great construction job.

Beautiful, bookmarked for when my own structures reach the same level of attention to detail, that I might add this one in.  Great Job!  [grin]

this is "The" Pantheon, which is in Rome has very few copies, as opposed to "a" pantheon - which refers not to the classic greek temple but to the collective of those temples for each god together, hence the same roots.

Sorry to be so wordy, but i couldn't help myself
