Site to convert images to .schematic files
« on: April 09, 2011, 11:44:30 PM »
If anyone is interested, I wrote a tool that will convert an image to a .schematic file using wool.

It will handle images up to 300x300. Png, jpg and gif formats are supported, and it respects transparency. In png images with alpha transparency, it uses a 50% cutoff. If a pixel is 50% transparent or more, it becomes a block of air in the .schematic file. If it is less than 50% transparent, it becomes colored wool.

Well this just kind of ruins the skill involved in making pixel art... but since I don't make pixel art and I need a certain pattern atm, thank you very much ^_^

I keep getting a error that say ValueError('total size of new array must be unchanged',).

Can you send me a link to the image you're using?

I got the same error when I tried to import it into Mcedit.

I use MCEdit to test, and haven't seen that error until now. Not sure what's causing it, but I'll look into it.
It only seems to do it on certain images, but I'm not sure whats special about them yet.

I'm still on Alpha 91 version of Mcedit... could that have anything to do with it?

It's more likely that my script isn't spitting out the schematic file properly in some cases. I'll have to read up on the file structure some more in the morning and make sure I'm not missing anything.

The chances of digging straight down into lava increase drastically if you have diamond in your inventory.

Its proven by science.

I'm glad I made my pixel art before those tools came out (at least I don't know if there already were on windows). This makes the pixelist award hard to give away :/

yea there were, i think people who make really good pixel art, will have comments like "you used this program to make your pixel art" And you will get no credit for your hard work :(

This will be really really cool when its finished :D I needed a pattern for my big project I'm working on and now I can just use this instead of making a half-assed one myself ^_^

It just means that people will have to make 3D pixel art to win the award, that's all... until someone figures out how to make a 3D version of this lol =P

interesting. Is there a downloadable version of this?
this does completely kill the 2d art section now though :(
I was intending on making the first 151 Pokemon, now ill get to do that in... 20 Min's tops? lol

also made schematics of my new forum avatar, as well as my old forum avatar

Edit: played with this some more, it doesn't like full color images and tends to scramble them, it doesn't like red orange or yellow much for some reason, i did encounter an error when attempting to place a schematic
that was uploaded as a .png ALL jpg images worked fine.

I did a comparisons to my houndoom, pretty similar except it still has the white backround and colors are off.

Nice program, but I'd love to find a program that could convert blueprints into Schematics at a ration you choose, be it 1 to 1, 2 to 1, or even 3 to 1.

wow......this is so cheap....I spend hours planning out my art, then more time making it........I will say this.....I do not respect anyone that uses this to make art on the scale I do, I can understand using it to get a pattern for a wall or something, but art is art and should be hand made.
