Yorktown Class Aircraft Carrier 1:1 Scale
« on: August 20, 2012, 12:49:30 AM »
Hey guys I just started working on a new project. It's a full size Yorktown Class aircraft carrier that was in use at the beginning of WWII. It'll either be the Enterprise or the Hornet, but since I've only laid down the hull I have a while to decide. There seems to be a lack of published plans so I'm mostly going off of old photos and general dimensions. Anyway so far I've completed the hull and will be posting the progress here as I go. If I get enough support I may publish it when finished but that's a long way off still. I'm also open to any suggestions and welcome everyone's insight/help. Hope you enjoy!!

P.S. If the model looks a little short (vertically) it's because it's missing the hangar deck and the flight deck which will add another 5 blocks to the top of the existing structure shown.

So this is my second update. I've worked up a few carrier planes but making them realistic in Minecraft is hard at a 1:1 scale so they'll take some more work. I've also added the flight deck and placed it next to the real photo from 1945.
