JL2579's Tree Farm
« on: August 06, 2012, 08:38:19 PM »
Today I'd like to bring you JL2579's *automated* Tree Farm. You stand on the piece of redstone, put a normal tree sapling on the dirt block in the middle of the center cylinder, and spam bonemeal until it grows. It will automatically move it to the back so that you can grow a bunch of trees and chop them all down for wood. I can confirm this works for 1.2.5 and for sure with normal trees because the have the chance of growing tall, this just forces it to grow taller. I have not tried it on 1.3.1 or with other tree types.

I take no credit for this build, just putting up a schematic because I couldn't fine one myself. This is his official design with the addition of 2 blocks of obsidian below to contain everything.

The dimensions are 30 W x 23 L x 21 H.

As this is my first post of a schematic, I would greatly appreciate your feedback and tell me if I did anything wrong. I wish I could have just copied this directly out of his world save but for some reason my computer wouldn't let me open his save with the Minecraft launcher or MCedit. This took a couple of hours to rebuild from looking at his video and trying to figure out what to do.

Here is the link to JL2579's video, showing you how to make it and explaining its mechanics.

After testing this farm with all 4 tree types, and even rubber trees from some mods, I have found only normal trees work with it. Also, after putting this on a couple of people's servers, I have been told of a problem with the back wall glitching and constantly triggering the BUD. To fix this, cut a hole, as can be seen in the first picture, and give the repeater closest to the BUD another tic. Seems to work fine after that.
