1:1 Scale Titanic WIP
« on: July 02, 2012, 03:54:34 AM »
I started this project a really long time ago, I really only shared photos of it with my friends because it wasn't really close to being done. Now I feel it has come far enough to be shown off to the public. More recently I have been building the Southampton docks and the Belfast shipyard kind of around the ship to compliment it. When the scenery around the ship started to look convincing enough, I began to take pictures at the same angles as real photos that exist of the Titanic. This process is not finished yet, and there are some I will redo, but there is a good collection going and I have nowhere to post it. It has a full interior, I have full technical deck plans to work from. Every single room, staircase, hallway, door, hatch, and ventilation shaft is where it should be. That includes all boiler and engine rooms etc. under the waterline. Even the propeller shafts, steam pressure pipes and boiler exhaust uptakes are crammed in there. As far as the portholes are concerned, they are not all 100% accurate I will admit. This is mostly because some rooms had more portholes than I could fit in given the meter spacing. I do not plan on giving this away because I have put too much work into it. The plan is to have it on my server for people to come and see along with Southampton and Belfast. I hope that you guys can appreciate the effort I have put into making my Titanic as detailed and photo realistic as possible. Would love to get some feedback!

Thank you very much! :D This is actually not my first project, however it is the largest. I will post some of my other creations when I can get better pictures of them. Also, I am glad you enjoyed the pixel titanic lol. That is a billboard at the entrance of Southampton in my server as an advertisement for the ship.

this is one of the best replica's i have seen.

being a bit cheeky but is there any chance of the boat yard being uploaded as a schematic file?

i think some people may want to use that separately or with the titanic almost as an addition.

any way very nice work definitely 5*
Please rate and comment on my schematics this would be kindly appreciated.

If you want a boat built. message me a name and i will try to make it for you

Unfortunately the artist has decided not to distribute this Titanic, but you will be able to go on his server and see it if you like (according to the OP in this topic).

I do not plan on giving this away because I have put too much work into it. The plan is to have it on my server for people to come and see along with Southampton and Belfast.

Personally I find it to be a shame, as to me more than half the fun in Minecraft is playing around with the schematics once they're imported into my world, just looking at them like going on a tour does nothing for me.  But to each their own, we must respect the wishes of the author of the item.

For some reason, the really good Titanic replicas in Minecraft are not given for others to enjoy on their own worlds, where as things like the U.S.S. Enterprise starship that is also as detailed and might actually be even larger are put up for download.  There must be something about the Titanic that makes people want to hold it close.

Oh and to the OP... Just so you know, people can still get your work by visiting your server, at least they could last time that I tried it on our own MCschematics server a year or so ago just using a mod to capture everything that the player can see.

Heh, I don't believe hiding beneath one's bedding is necessary. It's a big website, it would be very difficult for one to catalog everything in his or her mind. An easy mistake, if it can be called a mistake.

On topic: Wow, this thing is awesome. Beautiful piece of work, though I do not agree with it I understand your reluctance to share this with the world. Its your "Preeeeciouss".

My apologies for responding so late. Life has been kind of crazy for me lately :mobcreeper:

For some reason, the really good Titanic replicas in Minecraft are not given for others to enjoy on their own worlds, where as things like the U.S.S. Enterprise starship that is also as detailed and might actually be even larger are put up for download.  There must be something about the Titanic that makes people want to hold it close.

The reasons why I don't like the idea of giving it away are beyond just the effort I have put into physically building it. Building the Titanic has been a personal journey for me. I know more than just how the ship was built or what it looked like. My research for this project has gone into all of the details of the Titanic as a story not just an object. Due to the context of the Titanic being "lost forever" I feel that the recreation of it has in some sense brought it back to life. Duplicating the ship indefinitely would completely devalue it in my opinion. I know that letting people download it would be the easiest way for people to enjoy it, but I just can't put myself up to giving it away outright.

Oh and to the OP... Just so you know, people can still get your work by visiting your server, at least they could last time that I tried it on our own MCschematics server a year or so ago just using a mod to capture everything that the player can see.

I was unaware of mods like that, do you remember what it was called? I wonder if it can work with recent MC builds :mobsheep:

The Australian billionaire Clive Palmer said he would build a new Titanic. It's not lost forever.

With how different the laws are now it is basically impossible to remake the Titanic even close to how it was. So many things would have to be changed to make it a legal sea going vessel that it wouldn't even look the same from the outside anymore. One big example is the life boats. The life boats would have to be mounted much closer to the waterline which means huge holes for them in the hull. That fact alone means that the interior would have to be arranged completely differently to accommodate them. Combine that with fire safety code and you lose all of the hand carved wood paneling which was such a large part of what made the Titanic so special and irreplaceable. Lets just say I am not holding my breath waiting for Clive Palmer to build another one.

Just building a ship with the name Titanic, does not make it the same ship.
In my honest opinion it would be a massive insult to all those died on the original, the namesake also would cause quite a controversy, and it would also be doomed from its maiden voyage to fail.

And to OP: Really nice work with the ship, must've been quite the undertaking, and don't give it away in schematic form if you don't want to, some people are just greedy or thiefs. And as CB said above that mod is called World Downloader found here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/333322-world-downloader/

Also fun fact: Only 3 of 4 of Titanic's funnels were operational. No 4 was purely there for aesthetic reasons.
