How to open up MCedit and a schematic.

Hi everyone and hope I find some help. I've been up and down through the site and youtube, but can't find any info on help for a noob. Okay so I'm not familiar with how downloading works. So far I've been able to get winrar. I also downloaded MCedit. Where I'm stuck is how do I even open it. I cant even open a  schematic I looked at another post, but all someone did was post a link to listed topics. I'm really looking for a helpful straight answer. I don't know how to use winrar nor do I know how these files open. If I click on the file it says program cannpt be opened and if I would like to search the internet for something to open it. I'm really confused. Please help and Thanks!

If it helps I have an old computer running windows xp and avg virus protector active

Also I forgot to add. What I'm here for is blueprints. Is there an easier way than going through all this trouble just to look up a picture of how to build a particular building? Like those listed on the MCpro app. Those are so simple to look at. Thanks
