The Wind Reaper (Small Airship)
« on: May 14, 2012, 02:40:54 PM »
Here is the 2nd of 3 airships I've built. This one being a smaller frigate type dubbed the Wind Reaper. Working cannons and torch-less lighting being a couple of its high points. So once again, enjoy!

Very nice! Small though, but one could say that attributes to its novelty. I decided to stage a battle. Here is a narrative of what transpired:

The small frigate dubbed "Wind Reaper" was ordered by Admiralty Rely heliograph Ship "Lighter" to dim all lights to ambush levels and proceed North North West to intercept the renegade ship "Serenity". The captain complied with the orders and, within 3 hours of full speed travel, was at the designated intercept point. A The officer on watch spotted through the foggy night a light which confirmed to be the hostile "Serenity" Captain was awoke and ordered the guns to be loaded with  incendiary shot. "Serenity" and "Wind Reaper" were now separated by less than a quarter mile of fog and dark. Bureaucracy prevented the Wind Reaper's captain from immediately  opening fire, however, and the renegade "Serenity" spotted the "Wind Reaper". The Serenity's captain decided the Wind Reaper a worthy target to board (Perhaps mistaking it in the dark to be a small, fast cargo ship of the kind often used to carry monies from bank to bank.). The Serenity's captain ordered a warning shot to be fired off the bow of the Reaper. The Serenity Gunman miscalculated the Reapers rate of speed, and owing to that an incendiary round hit and ignited the bow section of the Reaper. Being fired upon automatically gave the Reaper's captain clearance to engage, and he responded with a full broadside, almost 60% of which hit. Now both ships had a fire of some severity on board, and were in a close range and potentially self destructive firefight. Realizing this the Serenity began to disengage and climb, dropping a stupendous amount of ballast on the way, but this was not before the Reaper reloaded and launched another fusillade, crippling the Serenity horribly, and igniting the ropes on the port side holding the ship to the gas bag. Seconds before the main port rope succumb to the flames the Serenity's gunners fired, hitting the Reaper square in the hydrogen bag. This sent the flaming serenity into almost a free fall, into the ocean approximately 600 feet below. And then the rope on the Serenity failed, the gondola listed impossibly (Spilling most of the crew on deck), and the remaining ropes connecting gondola to gas bag broke. A flaming wreck plummeted to join the Reaper in the frigid Atlantic far below.

Mission report over.

That was fun to write.

Nice! Is the projection at the front a purpose built ram? If so you might (Just a suggestion) want to sheath it in iron, or something of the like. That may be cool, it may be hideous.  Also, while i'm writing, I might as well ask if there is a purpose built War Room, the room I am obsessed with. The "Radar Room" pedestal looks more like a map than a radar. Whats the ETA for this thing?
