Future of forums.
« on: February 13, 2012, 03:33:52 AM »
Hi, I've been using this forum exclusivly for schmatics for a while and haven't been active but I haven't seen a topic on the future on this site and I thinkit needs to be discussed.

As you may or may not know MCEdit is being discontinued: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/13807-mcedit-minecraft-world-editor-compatible-with-mc-beta-18/page__pid__12649101__st__5458#entry12649099

Because of this I think it's worth considering the future of this website. With no MCEdit there will not be any schematics (not to mention it'll be a huge impact to the custom map scene which I frequent.)

While I'm sure this is a morbid topic for most people (the potential death of their favourite site) I think this has to be considered.

Obviously he has released the source code so there is a potential for a continuation project but so far (even if this is very early into the situation) no-one has stated any intrest in doing so.

If there is another topic like this that I missed feel free to point me towards it but if not I think it's time to consider it. Also, apoligies if you think this fits into another sub-forum better but I was unsure myself.

You really think because the original creator of the software is letting go of the reigns that the site will suddenly just 'die'?

I'm still using a very old version of MCedit and its stable with more modern versions of Minecraft. So even if the software is no longer updated people will still use the old versions.
And I'm also sure that another talented individual will pick up from where codewarrior left off.

Like I said I honestly don't know much about the subject but wanted to bring it up because even if you can use older versions of mcedit it's still going to effect this website. Also I don't know is new world generation features will effect it.

World edit doesn't make schematics...
actually it does, select it, then use //save <filename> and go to your world edit/server directory.

So it seems I was right to be worried...

*Sigh*

So anyway I hope that MCEdit does get continued because this site is awesome.

old MCedit's just don't recognise newer blocks, but it will show them up with the name: "future block!"
so technically, mcedit works on all versions of minecraft, i just doesn't recognise newer blocks
